International trade can be complex, but this course cuts through the confusion. Whether you're dealing with imports or exports, goods or services, you'll gain a solid understanding of how VAT applies to international transactions. Through real-life examples and practical explanations, you'll learn to navigate key principles with confidence.

You'll also become aware of common risk areas that can impact your bottom line—and learn how to help your business avoid costly VAT errors in the future.

• Export of Goods - Whether you're trading B2B or B2C (think online retailers), you'll learn the conditions for zero-rating exports and the VAT implications for UK businesses selling to EU consumers.
• Place of Supply of Services Rules - These rules are famously complex, but not anymore. You'll be introduced to a practical three-stage test to determine the correct VAT treatment for exported services.
• Import of Goods - Discover available simplification schemes and understand the evidential requirements for reclaiming import VAT.
• The Original Reverse Charge - Not the construction industry one! This module covers the original reverse charge mechanism for purchasing certain services from non-UK suppliers.

Simone Hurst

Simone Hurst is an accomplished speaker and VAT consultant of many years' standing. She began her VAT career as the youngest ever direct entrant Executive Officer in HM Customs & Excise working as a VAT Inspector before moving on to manage an in house VAT practice for a firm of accountants in Yorkshire and then working for one of the Big 4 firms. She now runs her own independent VAT practice, VATease, and has done for 26 years, dealing with every sort of VAT query you can possibly think of.
